UGA frat self-suspends amid furor over racist tweets

A University of Georgia fraternity shuts down operations after a series of racist and sexist social media postings. The University’s Interfraternity Council is investigating the UGA chapter of Lambda Chi Alpha.

A University of Georgia fraternity has self-suspended after racist and misogynist texts were exchanged among members on a group chat app.

UGA’s interfraternity council posted a statement on Twitter Sunday, saying they were aware of the “racist, sexist and otherwise discriminatory comments” made on Lambda Chi Alpha’s GroupMe chat.

The chapter has suspended itself indefinitely and council officials said the individuals who participated will be held accountable.

Screenshots of what appeared to be the messages were circulated widely on Twitter over the weekend.
