A South Carolina woman asked for a Mega Millions ticket at a convenience store but was given a Powerball ticket instead. It turned out to be a lucrative mistake, as the Irmo resident won $250,000 in the May 2 drawing.

“I thought, ‘This can’t be,’” the woman, who did not wish to be identified, told South Carolina Education Lottery officials in a statement. “I checked the date, the game and the winning numbers over and over.

“I’m so grateful.”

According to Irmo’s website, the suburb of Columbia is “a great place to live.”

It became even better after the woman’s winning ticket, bought at a Circle K, was a big winner.

The woman had decided to keep the ticket and forgot about it until her daughter texted her about a winning ticket sold in Irmo, WIS-TV reported.

“I’m sure it’s me,” the woman texted back, jokingly, according to the television station.

Her quick pick ticket matched four of the five numbers and the Powerball number, lottery officials said in a news release. Because she added the PowerPlay option to her ticket, her $50,000 winnings were multiplied by five.

The woman said she would use her winnings to help charities she regularly supports, lottery officials said. The Circle K store received a $2,500 commission for selling the winning ticket.
