Louisiana State Police issued a traffic advisory Tuesday after an 18-wheeler driving on Interstate 10 in Ascension Parish left the road and crashed into the water.

Photos from the scene show the tanker submerged in the bayou, with the rear wheels visible above the water.

The crash was near the Ascension/St. James Parish line, and deputies from both sheriff’s offices responded to the scene to assist. The St. James Parish Sheriff’s Office said the road would be closed early Wednesday morning as crews worked to pull the vehicle from the water.

A dashcam video obtained by WBRZ shows the moment the truck left the road, sending a wave of water splashing over the divided highway.

Investigators told WWL-TV that the truck’s driver suffered minor injuries and was taken to a hospital.

The Louisiana Department of Environmental Quality said the tanker was carrying mineral oil, which is non-hazardous, WBRZ reported.

No other vehicles were involved in the crash.
