Chicago shootings: 14-year-old boy killed, 9 others hurt in North Lawndale

CHICAGO — A teenage boy has died and nine other people are recovering from injuries following two shootings in the North Lawndale area of Chicago, authorities said.

According to WGN and WLS, the incidents occurred shortly after 6 p.m. Wednesday. In the first shooting, which happened near West 13th Street and South Christiana Avenue, a 14-year-old boy suffered a fatal gunshot wound to the head, Chicago police said. Four others also were shot, including a 16-year-old boy who was critically injured and three men in their 20s who are in stable condition, the news outlets reported.

Minutes later, the second shooting occurred near South Ridgeway Avenue and West Douglas Boulevard, police said. An 18-year-old man was critically injured, while four other males, ages 14, 15, 17 and 22, were hospitalized in good condition, authorities said.

Investigators have not yet determined whether the incidents were connected, according to the news outlets. Police said they have not made any arrests.
