Chad Klinck is a staple in the Jefferson community. He coached the Jefferson Rec Swim Team, Jefferson Middle School, and Jefferson High School Swim Teams, and is credited with starting the swim program at Jefferson Middle and High Schools.
Chad was diagnosed with ALS, also known as Lou Gehrig’s Disease, in 2020.
While the disease has been identified for over 100 years, no meaningful treatment exists. One out of every 300 people will develop ALS, and 6,000 Americans a year are diagnosed with it. Doctors and scientists have learned a lot about ALS, but outcomes are still the same. Once diagnosed, patients usually survive less than five years. ALS is particularly cruel in the way it slowly robs those with the disease of life. Muscles gradually die taking away the ability to use hands and legs, and eventually the ability to breathe.
Chad has started a fund-raising campaign with “I Am ALS” to join in the war against the disease. This charity not only helps to fund ALS research, but it also helps patients with the disease and advocates nationally for patient funding and expanded access to medical trials.
