Duck Dynasty’ star Phil Robertson has died.
His family shared the news on social media on Sunday saying that Phil was a man of God, who always tried to remind people that death only meant returning to God’s kingdom. They thanked fans for their thoughtful prayers and promised that the family will continue to honor him and his legacy.
Korie Robertson added that the family will have a private service but will share details “about a public celebration of his life.”
Phil was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease back in December in an episode of the “Unashamed with The Robertson Family” podcast. At the time, his son Jase revealed that his dad was in the “early stages” of the illness.
Years before becoming famous on television, Phil Robertson played football at Louisana Tech. He was a starting quarterback while NFL legend Terry Bradshaw was his backup.
Phil later founded Duck Commander in 1972.
Duck Dynasty: The Revival is expected to premiere on A&E this summer.
