One of my favorite parts of Summer vacation growing up was the big end of Summer Movie Marathon my siblings and I would watch right before school started. It was a great way to fall back into familiar habits and calm our nerves before starting a new school year. So here’s the 6 best movie series to watch in marathon to get ready for the new school year, plus 3 bonus series sure to make you feel good.
So whether you watch 1 series, all 6 or just one movie off this list, it’s sure to put you and your kids in the mood to get back to school.
- High School Musical Trilogy: The series immediately invokes romanticized back to school vibes thinking about the perfect first day of school outfits, the perfect crush and of course surviving the lunch room politics.
- Diary of a Wimpy Kid Trilogy: It’s perfect for younger kids, and perfectly captures the funny, awkward and relatable moments younger kids face during the school year.
- Bring It On 1-6: First of all I know there’s technically 7 Bring It On Movies, but true fans of the series don’t acknowledge whatever that last movie is... now onto the reason it’s a high octane school spirit cheer movie that just makes you feel good.
- Despicable Me/Minions universe: It’s silly chaotic comedy, bright colors, and interesting gadgets gets kids using their imagination on what gadgets or evil mastermind industry they can create.
- Tobey Maguire’s Spiderman Trilogy: Now I know it’s highly debated to include 2021 Spiderman No Way Home since Tobey Maguire reprises his role as the super hero, but hear me out, the original 3 perfectly capture his school boy charm as Spiderman and viewers can’t help, but to wonder what would my life look like as a student with a secret super power.
- Harry Potter: Enough said. It’s a back to school master piece watching Harry and his friends grow up and go through each school year as they take on all the dark wizards and witches in the wizarding world.
Now personally Harry Potter and Bring It On always take the cake for me when it comes to back to school nostalgic vibes, but there’s a few that didn’t make the list, but certainly help spark imagination and joy just in time for the school year to start:

- The Incredibles
- Inside Out
- And hear me out, while their technically not related in any way aside from being Pixar Movies: Bug’s Life, Cars and Wall-E.
