6ft under the radar ways to prep for Halloween

It’s never too soon to start decorating for Halloween, but to keep your nosy neighbors at bay here’s 6 subtle ways to welcome spooky season

Some people look forward to Christmas, some people look forward to Thanksgiving, and some people look forward to New Years Eve... but there’s a special breed of people who can’t wait to dig out the skulls and witch hats from the basement. And that lingering question of how soon is too soon to start decorating for Halloween starts getting asked earlier each year. So if you’re ready to start decorating your home, but you don’t want any judgmental stares from your neighbors these subtle decorations are sure to kick off your favorite time of year...

  • Sun-Baked Skulls Florals: instead of cheesy plastic bones laying out on the porch, swap out those summer flowers with darker floral arrangement or dried floral arrangements. Think dark greens, deep burgundy, dried seed pods in a sleek terracotta or black vase. If you want to take things a bit further accent the floral arrangement with tasteful skulls or half moons and stars.
  • Midnight Patio Lighting: instead of bright white twinkle lights in your patio or tiki torches for summer, swap them out with warm yellows, ambers, oranges and violet lights. For the casual on looker it give off warm Summer bon fire vibes, but subtly welcomes witchy vibes. You can take things a step further and swap out those bright patio cushions with a deeper, richer fall color like a dark terracotta or even a moody purple or steel blue.
  • Swap out accents and linens: keep the lightweight fabrics, but it’s time to switch up the colors, now’s a great time to introduce a charcoal or a mossy green to the decor. And you can switch out the accents like pillows, wall art, door mats and kitchen and bathroom accessories for something a little moodier, edgier and possibly muted gothic.
  • Apothecary Garden Accents: add vintage bottles filled with dried flowers, seeds and essential oils to your kitchen window, front porch and bathroom to add a whimsical spooky vibe to your home
  • Moody Door Wreath: I’m no psychic, but I’m seeing a craft night in the near future with this one. But create a new moody door wreath that welcomes darker elements like dried grapevines and papas grass mixed with dark lush greens and small pops of dark colors.
  • Summer Goth Nook: whether reading’s your thing or doom scrolling on your phone for hours, introducing a gothic nook to your home is the perfect way to introduce Halloween into your home without going off the rails. You can start with a darkly inspired accent chair, some dark moody matte black decorations with gold accents to give a whimsy witchy vibe to to your new relaxation spot. Perhaps a few candles and vintage books and a cozy blanket to really set the stage for how epic this spooky season will be.
