KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Police in Kansas City, Missouri, detonated a “suspicious package” on Wednesday near the federal courthouse downtown, authorities said.
According to the Kansas City Police Department, investigators used a “controlled detonation” at 7 p.m. to neutralize the package, WDAF reported.
“If you heard a loud boom downtown, it was that,” KCPD said in a tweet.
Just before 7p investigators used a controlled detonation to disable the package, if you heard a loud boom downtown it was that. The streets will remain blocked off immediately in front of the court house for the next couple hours while investigation continues.

The detonation came three hours after authorities evacuated the area near the Charles Evans Whittaker Courthouse, The Kansas City Star reported.
Police have not released any other information about the package, WDAF reported.
