An observant citizen with social media savvy helped save a dog’s life at a Texas water park.

According to this KPRC report, Xochitl Dalton spotted a yellow Labrador retriever inside a car in the Splash Town water amusement park located in Spring, in the Houston metropolitan area. The dog appeared to be hot and the window was barely rolled down for air.

The temperature at the time was over 90 degrees, but investigators say that inside the car the temperature could have been as high as 140 degrees.

Dalton sprang into action, calling police and posting photos of the trapped dog to the Facebook pages of several animal rescue organizations in the area.

The community response was immediate, with people bringing bricks and hammers to break the windows, if necessary, to free the overheated dog.

Fortunately, a park worker spotted the commotion and managed to get his hand inside the window opening. He unlocked the door and rescued the panting dog.

The owner was not located until after the amusement park closed. He was not identified, but he was charged with animal cruelty and booked in the Harris County Jail.

The dog received a health evaluation and is being taken care of by local authorities.
