CLEMSON, S.C. --- Georgia soccer suffered its first loss of the season Sunday night on the road at No. 14 Clemson with a score of 3-1. Senior Marion Crowder scored Georgia's lone goal of the game in the 49th minute of play, marking her first of the season.

"Clemson is an outstanding team," Georgia head coach Billy Lesesne said.  "You can tell by the atmosphere here. You can tell by the maturity of the way that the team plays that they're a good team.  I thought we were rattled a little bit in the first half, but we talked about communication in the locker room."

The game started with back and forth action from both teams, neither Georgia nor Clemson getting a shot off in the first 12 minutes of play. Georgia goalkeeper Louise Hogrell stopped the Tigers' first shot on goal in the 13th minute.

The Tigers rolled one passed the line in the 20th minute, but were called offside. Clemson officially got on the board in the 31st minute with a shot from Claire Wagner at the top of the box that made its way to the right side of the net.

Georgia had five saves to Clemson's two in the first half.  The teams headed to the locker room with the Tigers up 1-0.

Clemson extended its lead early in the second half after the ball was thrown down the side, played into the box and scored from six yards out.

Georgia picked up the offense in the second half, with 11 shots compared to just five in the first half. The Bulldogs scored after Marion Crowder sent a solo shot to the back left side of the net in the 49th minute, scoring her first goal of the season.

In the 56th minute, Delaney Fechalos sent a shot just wide after a yellow card was called on Clemson.

Clemson netted its third goal of the game in the 64th minute to secure the win.

"Unfortunately we gave up an early goal in the second half but we really battled back and I thought the second half had moments where we really started to shine and connect," Lesesne continued.  "We had a few chances and if we had put one of those away we would have put a lot of pressure on them.  I'm proud of our effort.  I thought there were times where we could have gave in, but we never did.  We kept battling.  I wish we would have gotten the result here, but again, there's a lot more soccer in front of us and I think we learned a lot on the evening."

Georgia returns to Athens for a weekend of home matches, facing Samford on Friday at 7 p.m. before taking on Cal State Fullerton Sunday at 1 p.m.
